Body Worlds

This has been a busy few days. Thursday my sister 3 of her kids, my parents and B and I took a day trip to the science centre. We paid the extra money to see the Body Worlds exhibit. Well first we left the older children in the play area. We didn't figure it would be appropriate for them. We did take the babies though. It was quite an interesting exhibit. Basically the exhibit explores the human body. People who passed away had their bodies donated and they were subsequently "plastinated" and preserved. The bodies were preserved in a number of manners. Some were done to specifically show the muscular system, the nervous system etc. They also had individual organs, some healthy some showing signs of illness for example stroke and lung disease. They also had cross sections of various bodies or body parts. On cross section in particular was of a pregnant woman. It was sad to look at yet interesting at the same time. Truthfully had I not known that these people had once been living I would have thought them to be manufactured. Everyone seemed to be very sober and quiet well they looked. I suppose out of respect for the deceased....imo though the souls that once belonged to those bodies are long gone hopefully to a better place. My little guy behaved well....he actually started giggling at one point. I wonder what he was thinking.

Yesterday I met up with some of my FF girls. In the morning we went to the Modern Momma launch...not quite what I was expecting. Tons of women and babies crammed into a very small warm room. We waited to have our babies pictures taken and chatted and that was about it. We met up later for diner with some more ladies. I had a good evening. Even though it was scary driving though the massive puddles and torrential downpours. I did meet up with a lady from my work at the restaurant. She asked me when I was coming back....please don't remind me. I think about it enough all ready!!

Well the girls and I talked about fertility and babies. I had just seen a recent Oprah titled "Rent a Womb." It was about couples going to India to find surrogates to carry their babies. According to the show it can cost upwards of $80 000 to hire a surrogate in the US. In India it is only $6000 plus the travel and treatment costs. So the girls and I discussed it that is how I learned the laws here in Alberta are hugely restrictive regarding surrogacy. I was aware that compensation was not allowed. But I was told that unless you physically have no uterus you can't use a surrogate. That seems slightly wrong to me. That brings me back to my complaint that the government will pay for a woman to have a therapeutic abortion but will not help a woman/couple become pregnant, even if that woman or her husband has a legitimate health issue. Sure I know going through IF treatments here in Canada is slightly better than the States. I never had to pay for a doctors visit, ultrasounds, blood tests, hsg, s/a's and all that. But it is still expensive especially for those doing IVF. I will have to do some of my own research to find out the real deal on surrogacy in Alberta.

Well I suppose that is it for now. Not really an organized thought but my mind is a racing today!
