Hiatus

Summer seams to have taken a hiatus. It's not such a big deal. I know she will be back. As I sit here and look outside the grass is brown the sky is grey. It reminds me of Autumn. I know Autumn will be here soon. Sooner than I would like. DH can't wait for Autumn because that is when I go back to work. I don't think he realizes what a change that will be for all of us. For him, Brennan, me and our whole routine. I wonder if my parents have started to realize what a commitment they have made to care for Brennan while I work. Of course I appreciate that I have someone that I can trust to look after my child. I just hope that it is not too much for them. I suppose they have had a number of retired years with just the two of them and are ready to have a change. Or maybe they are just as worried about us finding suitable childcare at a reasonable cost.

I know child care is something that a number of my new mom friends have been thinking about. One in particular plans to go back to work in November, at the same time as me although her LO is 5-6 months younger. She just found out she got a space after being on a wait list since Sept 07. Others are researching day homes less wait time and slightly less expensive.

Since Brennan was born we have left him only once in the care of a babysitter other than my parents. That was mother's day and my sister convinced me to leave him with her sitter. Well when we came back to pick up Brennan he was soaked through his clothing. The sitter had never changed him. Whenever I tell my girlfriends this story they always cringe. I know what they are thinking. Obviously it was only a wet diaper gone unchanged but what does it really say about how other people care for children.

It's a good thing my mom and I are a lot alike. I can pretty much guarantee my child will be well cared for. Second best to me and his dad.

We started using cloth diapers a while ago. I am trying to do my part for the environment and maybe save a few dollars. It is a bit more work but satisfying at the same time. I usually put a wrap on over the diaper because they will wet through especially during nap or when Brennan is using his exersaucer. Well the little smarty pants has learned how to pull it off. Just waiting for the day he learns how to take the actual diaper off. UH OH!
