Wtf update
Well I saw Dr M this morning to discuss my failed ivf. I asked my questions. About the menopur he assured me that recent studies indicated menopur has higher pregnany rates then the other gonodatropins. He said because it is a public clinic he is not bound by drug companies to use certain meds. He uses what is shown to be most effective. He has found even in their own results that menopur is better.
In regards to dosage he feels it is possible that if I lower my dose to start it could change things however he does that would be beneficial.
So basically if we were to cycle again the cycle would go very much the same during the stim stage....same meds, same dose. The one thing he would for sure do differently is to let me stim a little bit longer...1 day...that could make a difference in the maturity of the eggs retrieve BUT it could also damage eggs making them post mature. It's a really fine line.
He also told me that what the embryologist said about immature eggs wasn't totally accurate. The only way they can really tell if an egg is immature is to clean the cumulose cells from around them....this is not done in standard ivf. So technically not all of those eggs may not have been immature....there could have been sperm binding issues. He recommends ICSI for the next cycle....then there will be a certainty if the eggs are immature or not.
He told me about a recent study regarding pcos and inflammation. Apparently "they" may be bringing back the use of antibiotics during stims. He said we could try this. Also they have discovered that using BC prior to an antagonist protocol is not the best thing so when/if I do cycle again I will stop BC a bit prior and initiate ivf with inducing an af with progesterone.
He also mentioned about helping us with the med costs. I made him write that down this time (he's offered before but didn't chart it!)
I think that's it. He did say he would email me some studies and I plan to ask for them. He said again how he appreciates my questions. I did tell him and at that point the tears welled that I am so close to the end of the road here. I mentioned the possibility of August for another cycle and he suggested wait just a bit longer. Apparently he is in the know about the possibility of ivf becoming a covered service in this province. My thoughts on that "don't hold my breath". But I can only assume he knows far more about that than I do.
