B is with my mom this morning at church, so I get an hour or so to myself. Doing more research of course not doing anything productive. So I really think that cervical incompetence may just be what happened. The symptoms (or lack there of) really seem to click, where the symptoms of infection or abruption don't.
I found this chart (see above). In the acquired column cervical laceration during cesarean check, prolonged second stage labour (hello 5 hours of pushing 7 hours total!) check.
Symptoms:
"Presentation is of cervical effacement and dilatation in the absence of uterine contractions; symptoms of pressure; protruding membranes or rupture of membranes; little
bleeding; and a rapid delivery.
The only symptom I didn't have was pPROM, but the membranes were most definitely protruding. I am pretty sure the resident ruptured the bag of waters after it descended down the birth canal.
I am so angry.....I asked 2 ob/gyn's about the integrity of my cervix.....
Apparently I know my body....a lot of good that did me.
OK OK I know I don't have an official DX yet....maybe I'm getting upset for no good reason. I should get back to my knitting. Four pairs done.

It's totally normal to feel angry and be searching for a reason... I still wonder every day (just today I was looking up about a possible link between anemia and stillbirth - i had low iron levels)... and I can totally understand your anger if you brought these concerns to your doctors and they dropped the ball! I would be fuming too. Hugz.
I found your blog through your birth story posted on HP.
My mom had an incompetant cervix. Until I found out a few days ago it is related to Ehlers-Danlos, which I've suspected for years that I have, I thought it was completely unrelated to my own pregnancy losses. Now I'm not so sure.
Anyway, she lost her 4th out of 5 babies to incompetant cervix. Baby #3 was 6 weeks early, Baby #2 was 3 or 4 weeks early, and baby #1 (me) was a week or two early. All dialating without any real contractions.
With my brother who she lost her story was similar to yours except he was several weeks younger than Gavin - she went to L&D because of spotting and they found that her bag of waters was bulging. Unfortunately they made her drink a ton of water for the sono, causing her to throw up... which made her bag of water break. My brother died of cord compression before he was born.
With her next pregnancy she had to fight for a cerclage at 12 weeks - she started dialating at 10 weeks and they don't do them that early. She got it though and between that and 32 weeks of bedrest she carried to full term.
I don't know if this story helps you in anyway. In any case I hope it helps more than hurts.
