Tiny Booties

Someone (not naming any names) offered to teach me to knit. Maybe to keep my mind and hands busy as I travel through this valley. I know the very basics of knitting. My mother taught me the "knit stitch" way back when I was in elementary school, but that was all she knew and that doesn't make for much knitting.

As a young adult I made use of the Internet and learned a few more basics. I've attempted various items in the past but as with every other crafty thing I have attempted some things just get put aside for a while. Like the cross stitch I worked on over 5 years (it is now professionally framed at my parents place)

I came across a blog this morning, a labour and delivery nurse who was talking about preterm birth. In a later post she spoke of fetal demise garments. She said at her hospital there isn't enough for the smallest of babies, and there especially isn't enough geared towards boys. Of course this got me to thinking. My hospital provided us with a couple small blankies, a knit hat, some knit booties and Gavin's teddy.

The first hat the nurse tried was much too large and she had to go back for a smaller one. The booties would have been much much too large, I still kept them though.

Anyways this got me to thinking that wouldn't it be nice to be able to donate some tiny items, just for those smallest babes. I do know that having Gavin's item's are of great comfort to me. I don't know if I have the drive to take on such a project, but it would be nice.

So I knitted some precious little booties today. They would have been a great fit for little Gavin.

I knit little hats for wee tiny babes at the Alex.

And what lessons do you need? It looks like you are doing fine?
